The Cedar Rapids IFL franchise, led by new ownership and management, have announced that the team will rebrand in preparation of the 2019 IFL season.
"This is an exciting time for our organization and our fans as we embark on a new era of indoor football in Cedar Rapids," said General Manager Ryan Eucker. "We can't think of a better way to highlight the changes and improvements we intend to make then by getting fans involved in the naming of their team."
The team will be holding a "Name the Team" contest for fans interested in helping to determine the official team name. Submissions can be cast by visiting the team's current website of www.cedarrapidstitans.comand visiting the "Name the Team" page located under the "Events" tab or clicking the news article located in the front rotator.
Team names may be submitted through 5:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday, September 5. If fans would like to add a creative touch and submit artwork concepts for a team logo, they are welcome to do so via the submission form online. At this time, the team is also open to new color scheme concepts to go along with the new name and logo, which can also be also be submitted by fans.
Fans will be limited to three (3) team name submissions each. Once their first three submissions have been received (based on form timestamps), future submissions will not be eligible for the grand prize. Team names submitted beyond their first three, if original, would be credited to the next person to submit that name as a part of their first three entries.
"We want to emphasize thoughtfulness and creativity with the submissions," said Eucker. "By limiting individuals to their top three team names, it opens up the competition to not only a lot more people but also gets fans to really get invested in the process."
Submissions will be vetted by a panel consisting of team ownership, staff, season ticket holders, sponsors, and community representatives. Each will also be examined by legal staff to determine the availability of trademarks and copyrights. A running list of viable submissions will be updated periodically on the team's website.
Following the submission cutoff on September 5, team staff will tabulate the most popular recommendations before selecting three finalists to be presented to the team's panel.
The announcement of the final selection is scheduled to take place on September 14 with artwork development going underway for an anticipated new logo launch by October 17. Updates or changes to that timeline will be announced in the future, as necessary for artwork creation and completion.
The fan who submitted the first and original entry that is selected as the new team name will receive a prize pack that includes: one (1) authentic 2019 team jersey, four (4) logo t-shirts, four (4) logo hats, four (4) lower level sideline season tickets, and the opportunity to join the team for a 2019 regular season road game against a conference rival.
