CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA – The Cedar Rapids River Kings have signed running back Kalif Phillips to their 2019 IFL roster.
Phillips (5-11, 215, UNC Charlotte) joins the River Kings for his rookie season as a member of the IFL after spending the 2018 NFL preseason with the Green Bay Packers.
During his collegiate career, Kalif recorded school records in career rushing yards (4,020), total touchdowns (43), rushing touchdowns (41), and 100-yard rushing games (15). He became the 49ers first single-season 1,000-yard rusher when he eclipsed the mark during his junior year and finished with 1,436 yards on the ground.
He also set single-season records in 2014 for touchdowns (20), rushing touchdowns (20), rushing yards (1,436), rushing yards per game (131.0) and rushing attempts (229). Kalif holds the 49ers top eight single-game rushing performances which includes a school-record 204 yards in a single game (at Old Dominion in 2015).
As a junior and senior, Kalif earned post-season honors as he was named to the Second Team All-Conference USA in 2015 and an Honorable Mention in 2016. Prior to joining UNC Charlotte's second-ever recruiting class in 2013, he played his prep career at A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, North Carolina where he rushed for over 2,500 yards and scored a career-high seven touchdowns with 351 yards on the ground in a single game as a senior.
